PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 Guide: Everything New in the National Day Update
If you opened PvZ Fusion this week and felt a little lost, you are not alone. The October patch dropped right after the big 4.0 update, and it touches almost every part of the game: new plants, two locked skins, a drawing level, the return of Tower Defense, and a curse shop change that will quietly drain your coins if you play Odyssey the old way.
This PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 guide walks you through every change in plain words, then tells you what it actually means for your runs. Read it once and you will know which new plant to try first, which skin challenge to save for later, and which old habit you need to drop.

What Is PvZ Fusion 4.0.5?
PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 is a mid-cycle patch for Version 4.0. The developer released it on October 1 as a National Day gift for players, so think of it as a content top-up rather than a brand new chapter. Version 4.0 brought the Snow Night map, Demon Plants, the Ouroboros Pot and Celestial Magnetar Odyssey fusions, and a wave of mechanical snow zombies. Version 4.0.5 finishes that snow story and adds fresh toys on top.
That matters for one simple reason: if you skipped 4.0, you are not missing a separate download. Installing 4.0.5 gives you everything from 4.0 plus the new patch content in one go. If you only want the raw list of changes, our short 4.0.5 update log has it. This page goes deeper into how each change plays.
New Plants in PvZ Fusion 4.0.5
Four plants join the roster. Three are Common Fusions and one sits in the Ultimate tier. The developer showed some of them in test footage on Bilibili before release, so a few numbers below come from those test builds. Treat exact stats as a starting point, because the developer often fine tunes values after players get their hands on a plant.
|
Plant |
Type |
What it does best |
|---|---|---|
|
Super Gatling Gloom-shroom |
Ultimate Fusion |
Close range lane shredding with tracking shots |
|
Giant Spike King |
Common Fusion (Giant plant) |
Ground control and instant answers to vehicle zombies |
|
Frost Threepeater |
Common Fusion |
Three lane coverage with ice support |
|
Floating Chomper |
Common Fusion |
A Chomper variant built around a floating, harder to reach body |
Super Gatling Gloom-shroom (Ultimate)
This is the headline plant of the patch. In the developer’s preview, it comes from fusing a Super Gatling Pea with a Gloom-shroom, and it carries a precision shot trait: once that trait activates, its bullets track their targets instead of flying in a straight line. Each hit was shown at 20 damage, but the fire rate is where the real pressure comes from.
If you already use a Gloom-shroom setup from our plant pages, this is the natural upgrade path. Check the base Gloom-shroom page for its fusion family before you commit sun.
Giant Spike King
Giant Spike King is a big ground plant from the Spikeweed family, and the preview made it look like one of the most useful defensive picks in the update. In the test build it had 1,000 HP and 120 damage per hit. It detects zombies across the whole map and fires spikes at up to three targets, and each spike can pass through three zombies.
The part that will change how you play is its answer to vehicles. When a vehicle type zombie shows up, Giant Spike King destroys it instantly, but it gives up one spike to do it. That spike takes about 30 seconds to come back. So on levels with several Zombonis or mechanical vehicles in a row, do not rely on it alone. Pair it with a Spikerock or a strong damage plant in the same area so the gap during recharge does not cost you a lane.
Frost Threepeater
As the name suggests, this plant sits in the Threepeater line with an ice twist. Threepeaters already cover three lanes at once, so adding frost makes it a good choice for crowded mid game waves where you want to slow a wide front instead of killing one tough target. Use it in the center row where all three of its lanes matter.
Floating Chomper
Floating Chomper is a new take on the classic Chomper. Full details on its stats were still thin at launch, so test it in an easy level before you trust it in Odyssey. A good habit with any new Chomper variant: place it where a nut can protect it while it chews, because the chewing window is still the weak point of the whole Chomper family.
New Skins and How to Unlock Them
Two Ultimate plants get new looks in PvZ Fusion 4.0.5:
Neither skin is free. Both stay locked until you clear their matching Skin Challenge. These challenges are built around the plant you are unlocking, so practice with that plant in normal levels first. Going in blind is the most common reason players fail them several times in a row.
New Levels and Modes in PvZ Fusion 4.0.5
Magic Brush Level
This is the most unusual addition in PvZ Fusion 4.0.5. Inspired by the Chinese folk tale of Ma Liang and his magic brush, the level asks you to draw the plant you want. The closer your drawing is to the real plant, the better the result you get on the lawn.
Tower Defense Returns
Tower Defense on the extended world map is back in PvZ Fusion 4.0.5. The developer previewed it in a long gameplay video a couple of days before launch, and it was one of the most liked clips of the whole patch cycle. If you enjoyed it in earlier versions, it is worth jumping straight in. If you are new to it, read our PvZ Tower Defense Mod page to understand how path based defense differs from normal lawn play.
Super Custom Levels
The level editor gets a batch of new functions, and, more importantly for most players, an in-game usage guide. In the past, many people opened Super Custom Levels, saw a wall of options, and closed it again. The built-in guide fixes that, so this is a good time to try building your own challenge.
Snow Night Story Wrap Up
The Alpha Diary is now complete, which finishes the story that started in Version 4.0. The Snow Night: Day 6 level was also adjusted. If you got stuck on Day 6 before, try it again after updating, because the difficulty curve is not the same as it was in 4.0.
Balance Changes Explained
Patch notes tell you what changed. Here is what each change means for your builds.
|
Change |
What it means for you |
|---|---|
|
Odyssey curse shop prices now rise 10% with each purchase |
Buying the same upgrade over and over is no longer cheap. Spread your coins across different upgrades. |
|
High value items (10,000 coins or more) cost an extra 100% once you own them |
Stacking expensive upgrades doubles the price. Buy your most important big upgrade first, then move on. |
|
Ultimate Torchwood gives a smaller boost to Phoenix Peas |
Phoenix Pea and Torchwood lanes hit softer. Add another damage source in tough lanes. |
|
Fire Dragon Pot gives a fixed 10% attack speed bonus to cherry launchers |
You no longer need to pick the True Cherry Bomb upgrade to get the bonus. That frees a pick for something else. |
The curse shop change is the one most players will feel. In 4.0, the common approach was to dump coins into one strong upgrade again and again. In PvZ Fusion 4.0.5, that plan gets expensive fast. Decide on your core upgrade before the run starts and spread the rest of your coins around.
Smaller Game Size in PvZ Fusion 4.0.5
A quiet but welcome change: the game is lighter. Here is how the download sizes compare with Version 4.0.
|

Version 4.0.5 |

Android (APK) |

|
PC (ZIP) |

If you play on a phone with limited storage, or on a slow connection, this alone is a good reason to update.

Can You Play PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 in English?
The official build is in Chinese. For PC players, the community translation team behind the PVZF-Translation project on GitHub released a Multi-lang Alpha for 4.0.5 on October 1. It updates the English text to match the new patch.
Keep in mind that it is an alpha, so it is not complete yet:
If you mostly play Adventure, Odyssey, and the new 4.0.5 levels, the alpha covers you well. If you live in Gods: Evolved, you may still see Chinese text there for now.
Common Problems and Quick Fixes
Most PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 launch problems come down to a missing runtime, a bad folder path, or an old mod. Here are the quick fixes.
|
Problem |
Fix |
|---|---|
|
Game closes right after you open it (PC English build) |
Install the .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime from Microsoft, then launch again. |
|
Game will not start at all |
Move the folder to a path with only English letters, like C:\Games\PvZFusion. |
|
Missing DLL error |
Install the Visual C++ Redistributable packages. |
|
Old mods stopped working |
Check if the mod needs BepInEx. The 4.0.5 English alpha only supports MelonLoader. |
|
APK says app not installed |
Uninstall the old version after backing up your save, then install again. |
Tips to Get the Most Out of PvZ Fusion 4.0.5
Is PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 Worth Updating?
Yes. Even if the new plants do not grab you, the smaller game size and the finished Snow Night story are enough on their own. Add Tower Defense, the Magic Brush level, and a much friendlier level editor, and PvZ Fusion 4.0.5 is one of the better value patches in the 4.x cycle. The only reason to wait is if you depend on BepInEx mods or need a full English Gods: Evolved, since the translation is still in alpha.
How We Put This Guide Together
This guide is based on the developer’s official 4.0.5 patch notes, the developer’s own preview videos on Bilibili, the Chinese PvZ Fusion wiki, and the release notes of the PVZF-Translation project on GitHub. Stats marked as preview values come from test builds and may change in a later hotfix. We will update this page as soon as the developer confirms new numbers or releases a fix.
